Turkish Minister of EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that Turkish films, when displayed in all corners of the world, help end preconceived notions on Turkey.
Speaking at a press conference prior to a red carpet ceremony and gala night at Rome's Casa del Cinema for the second annual Rome Turkish Films Festival, Egemen Bagis said that "10 years ago, around 9 films were recorded in Turkey per year".
"At the present time, around 70 films get recorded in Turkey every year. Two million people used to watch Turkish films per year. Now, the number of spectators has risen to 20 million," Bagis stated.
Honorary Chairperson of the Rome Festival and director Ferzan Ozpetek said that "cultural exchange was crucial for countries to understand each other".
15 Turkish films will be on display as part of the second annual Rome Turkish Films Festival.
